Kiosk Instructions

This page describes how to setup and use your Fashion Consolidated kiosk in order to become a FashCon designer with posting privileges. The information below is also present in your kiosk – right-click and open it to read the notecard.

If you’re unsure what a FashCon kiosk is, or why you may need one as a designer, please see the Apply page.

Kiosk Instructions

Thank you for your interest in Fashion Consolidated. If you are a designer or have been asked by a designer to post notices on their behalf, please read this card! This page will give you all the information you need on how to get added and some critical things you need to know to participate in the group. Note that you need to read this and go through the process below exactly to be added to FashCon as a designer – no-one can do this manually on your behalf. The information below goes to some length to cover all eventualities, but all you really need to do is rez your kiosk and fill in a notecard. Details also contained there about getting support.

If you are not a designer and are putting up this kiosk in a public place just to give out FashCon info, you will have been given an “infohub” version of the kiosk pre-configured. You don’t need to do any more than put it out and check it delivers a notecard when clicked. Thank you for your interest in FashCon, and you don’t need to read anything below this line.

The basic requirement to join FashCon as a designer is that you make and sell original designs on SL™ in the fashion or av-related area – this includes clothes, skins, hair, ao’s etc. You have to have an in-world space from which you sell or distribute your products – this is where your kiosk will go. It is a requirement to membership that your new releases are available to buy in-world, but FashCon will help you market them on slexchange, onrez too.

KIOSK CONFIGURATION

Your FashCon kiosks does four things:

  1. Once you have rezzed the kiosk in your shop, joined the group and been added to the vendor role after your application has been posted (usually the following weekend), you will be able to post notices to the group of your new releases. Keeping the kiosk rezzed at your shop ensures that you retain this ability to post.
  2. The kiosks also act as an information point for buyers at your shop to join FashCon. This ensures that your targeted customers get the latest on your releases.
  3. If your kiosk is rezzed and your application processed, your shop name and location will appear on the FashCon Tour HUD. This will give thousands of shoppers instant access to your landmark and shop information, complete with your own texture of choice.
  4. Your name, shop, SLurl to get there and links to any online selling sites you use will appear on the FashCon website http://fashcon.com/who.
  5. Your kiosk automatically sends its location to us. In case you relocate your store, all you need to do is rez your kiosk at the new location and it will be updated the following weekend for the HUD and Who page from the FashCon website.

HOW TO

To be added to Fashion Consolildated as a designer:

  • Check you agree with FashCon rules about content posting, IMs etc. This is very important as failure to abide by them may result in removal. Notices must always be about new fashion and av-related releases, and be sent with pictures of your releases. Visit the FashCon FAQ for information.
  • Pick a good spot for your kiosk. Your kiosk is used both as an information point that gives out details about FashCon, and also acts as a TP landing point. FashCon members using the FashCon HUD will teleport to 3m in front of your kiosk (unless you have a fixed landing point for your parcel/sim).
  • If you need to move your kiosk now, simply using edit to reposition it is best. If you take it and drop it again at another location it creates a duplicate entry on the server. Not a huge problem (and don’t tell me if you do!), but edit is preferred.
  • Open your kiosk and look in its contents (right click on it, pick Open, or you can use Edit mode if you prefer).
  • Double-click the notecard named “.User Settings”.
  • Edit the values and change all the settings as appropriate (details below). Save notecard and CLOSE it.
  • Drop in a medium size (256×256) snapshot/texture into the kiosk inventory. This will be used for your entry in the HUD – it can be anything you want, but should be an image and text to show off what your designs are about.
  • Add yourself to the Fashion Consolidated group if you haven’t done so already.
  • Done! Now await the next time the new applications are processed, usually the following weekend. Please don’t IM the group owner asking if it’s ready yet unless you have been waiting for at least one week. You’ll hear back if there’s a problem. Once you have been verified as a bona-fide fashion/av vendor, you will notice the “Create New Notice” button on the “Notices” tab in the group settings is enabled.
  • Once you have been given permission to send notices, please change “My Active Title” on the group front page to Designer/Vendor/Officer – this will ensure the group recognises you as a designer. Then read the “Designer’s Questions” section of the FAQ and you’re ready to go.

In the “.User Settings” notecard, please do NOT rearrange, duplicate, comment out, or add ANY lines! And don’t delete any just because you don’t have an entry for them!
Do NOT use double quotes (“)  the ‘|’ character, or a semicolons ‘;’ anywhere, and note that all lines beginning // are comments and not processed. Add your data on the lines below that do not start with //!  E.g. If the line is “shopname=Shop Name” (without the quotes), substitute the text after the equal sign with your information – “shopname=Fairy’s Fine Frocks”

Here are the details on the settings in the “.User Settings” notecard:

  • shopname: the name of your shop. if you share a shop, add some distinguishing name such as “Shop Name/Designer Line”. please DO NOT use the “|” character in your gallery name
  • shopowner(s): av name of the principal owner(s) of the shop, comma-separated if more than one
  • noticesender: the av name of the person who will send notices to FashCon on behalf of this shop. this will usually but not always be the same as shopowner. strictly only one sender per shop to avoid duplicate notices; you may swap this (for holidays etc.) by changing the notecard – one week’s notice please
  • shoptype: you MUST change this from “none” to a description of what you sell e.g. “Footwear, Urban Clothing”.
  • webpage, RSS feed, slxpage and onrezpage are optional, if you have them. You can only add one URL for each setting. RSS feeds should be strictly for websites for your shop – no personal blogs please.

SNAPSHOT INFO

In order to be approved for FashCon designer status, you are required to supply a medium sized snapshot (256×256) picture of your shop, or a logo etc. Please note: 512×512 is not medoium size – it’s too big! Also, make sure that the texture is full permission or you will get an error from the kiosk. There is a simple FashCon Tour HUD that you will be added to that is dispensed by the kiosks along with group information to everyone and this texture will be displayed when your shop location is displayed on the HUD map. This acts to publicise and provide easy access to your shop for shoppers using the HUD for casual shopping trips, and organised cooperative tours together.

THE KIOSK

Your kiosk controls your entry in the list. At any time you can move it, or edit the “.User Settings” notecard inside to update your shop name, contact names, etc. If you make any errors, the kiosk will notify you in due course. If you remove your kiosk, your listing will automatically be purged from the list. You do not need to notify me about any moves/changes/removals. Please don’t! Changes will be processed once a week.

MULTIPLE KIOSKS

“My shop is huge or I have multiple locations, can I use multiple kiosks?” Sure! Contact me for more free kiosks if you have bought one already. To avoid multiple listings of your shop in the list, just set up one kiosk as your main kiosk where you want visitors to TP in, and I will then send you infohub-only kiosks as secondaries.

SUPPORT

If you are having problems with your kiosk, or any aspect of using Fashion Consolidated, please use the following sources of support in the following order:

  1. Join the Fashion Consolidated Cafe group. This is a secondary group where you may chat freely, and contains many designers who can help. Describe your problem, ask for help, and make some new friends.
  2. If the Cafe group can’t help, contact PK Emmons for help. Please send details of your setup, your “.User Settings” notecard contents, and a description of your problem or query on the notecard. Please also make sure you include your full av name and shop name in the notecard!

Expect a response within 2-4 business days for queries.

Finally, thank you for your participation in the great Fashion Consolidated adventure!
