Effective immediately, FashCon Group IM policy has changed: group IMs of any type are now NOT ALLOWED in the Fashion Consolidated group IM channel. The only valid place to talk about any aspect of FashCon, a recent notice, anything, is the Fashion Consolidated Cafe group – note the “Cafe” on the end. You must join this second group to talk to other FashCon members. It’s a great group, with a lot of designers, fashionistas and lovely people, and you should join up too.
The ONLY valid response to type in Fashion Consolidated group IM now is to send the URL “http://fashcon.com/oops” to someone who hasn’t read this policy. Spammers will be removed from the group. Anyone shouting “spam” or “shut up” will also likely be removed. Responding to someone who didn’t send “http://fashcon.com/oops” is not allowed. Doing ANYTHING to propagate group IM is likely to put you at risk. I repeat: anyone who sends anything more than this URL is at risk from expulsion.
Why?
Because through my full year of campaigning for better group support from Linden Lab, they’ve not been able to deliver on most of the requests. They are promising big changes soon, but the first incarnation of their proposals was pretty worrying, and I’m not expecting big improvements soon. Group IM in large groups like FashCon just doesn’t function, delays, closes, confuses everyone, and the policy to allow group IMs for recent notice comments isn’t tenable any more. So it’s over, and you need to use the Cafe group to discuss anything now, if you like talking.
This policy will be enforced very strictly.
Webpages to be updated when I can, but this policy is in effect NOW. Please see below (under “Continue Reading”) for how you can help FashCon with this and other things like group IM spam. If FashCon helped you, please help it back now.
On a final note, I hate to whine, but I spent a full 8 hours flat doing FashCon administration today, logged off for three hours and came back to 12 IMs (+2 since I started typing this paragraph) all demanding my action on something, and 9 notecards, some of them pages long, all wanting replies. This isn’t my fulltime or part-time job, and it’s getting ridiculous. Please remember if you’re thinking of contacting me, unless your house is falling down, don’t, because there is a floating population of 6000 others who may be doing the same. I do not answer IMs, and will not answer IMs. I will only respond to issues in kiosk support, to provide as good a service as I can, and to issues that threaten the very fabric of FashCon. Seriously. The End.
Look out for some FashCon staff appointments soon.

—— How To Help ——-
Many aspects of groups on SL have been broken since they started, and I’ve campaigned for fixes for a full year. These include:
- Offline notices are broken (again)
- Notices often don’t send
- We can’t ban spammers
- We don’t get to choose if we want to see group IMs or not
- I can’t send important notices to just designers
- We can’t order notices by timestamp
- Looking at the notice in the new viewer is likely to hang you for minutes, or crash you
If you care about offline notices being broken, please go to:
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-37
log in top right, read the comments at the bottom, then click both Vote and Comment right hand side. Leaving a comment lets Linden Lab know this matters to you. This JIRA I logged a full year ago is the 2nd most voted for bug on SL.
While you’re there see my enhancement requests:

These are also a year old and still not actioned. See also my new bug http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-4963 – a really bad bug with the group archive that LL ignored and shipped anyway in the new viewer and affects anyone who uses the group archive. Please vote for AND comment on any of these you agree with and make LL a better place for FashCon, all other large groups, and me. If FashCon helped you, please help it back now.

i told i’d write u an IM, but u answered all in this post.
i say u everytime i can, i told u today inworld and i tell u again here now: thanx honey for all!
PS the bug i should in some way bring to LL attention is that i can’t login in jira since a month… damn!
<3 ya Honey, but how on earth are you going to keep on top of all the spammers and people who reply “STFU!”???
Our three main weapons are fear, surprise and ruthless efficiency. Wait no… same way I always have Tenshi: (1) virally marketing the Oops page, which remains an imperfect problematic method but the only good stab at encouraging a standard non-inflammatory response, (2) being courteous of mistakes but quite ruthless in private action when it’s clear someone doesn’t want to play by the rules, and (3) continuing my campaign to get support from LL, who have responded not a jot to my year-old JIRAs yet. Also, I have a small limited (has to be small) team of IM Helper volunteers with kick powers who I hope will find it easier with the new policy. Also, new staff imminently who may take over this sphere of work with more time than me.
Incidentally, only 2 people have actually logged into JIRA and commented on my bugs since I sent this notice. I’m not sure how many voted but I bet it’s a single hand’s worth. It’s very hard for me to keep dealing with 6000 people screaming at me to police IMs when they can’t face logging into JIRA for 2 mins to just comment on the issues. Please if you’re reading this *don’t assume anyone else is doing this, and go and do it yourself*. Now. Really. If you don’t, I have to assume you don’t mind the rabid group problems and group IMs at all and won’t ever ask me to help. Growl! xx
honey u have to had a wage payed from LL to discover they bug.
after u reported all those group issues, this one maybe the reason why ppl don’t vote for ur jira enhancement request…
I think I voted for the right ones. heh. That thing is confusing a bit. Sorry yer having such a tough time of it Honey, and we really do appreciate FashCon and the work you do! <3
The last set of links is broken, they all link to Misc-64. This could explain why there aren’t many votes, not everyone is going to notice that mistake.
Gosh thanks Candy, yes proper links may help. I would hope people saw the error and skipped through to the quoted links anyway – sorry all. I know the few who did, did. You’re the first to tell me! x
logging comments to the ones I can add to as I type – non delivery of notices offline and a timestamp in particular
Also adding a new one that when I have lots of catch messages when I first log in, I can only open one attachment . Once that is opened I just have to close all the other notes as nothing will get those attachments open. I have the intention to go back and check manually but more often than not forget…
re my last comment – created a new related issue
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5361
regarding the opening of attachments of Group Notices when many are waiting to be read at log in. This does impact sales to FashCon vendors re my previous comment that often I forget.
can I ask folks to vote on this too – thanks
