Firstly I just added a whole lot of new designers to FashCon. Welcome to all the new designers! Check the FashCon Who page to see who’s been added.
As before, I’ve asked them to not all announce on the same day but passed on a schedule to space out “hi!” notices throughout the week, so we don’t get a deluge, and you all get tasty new fashion goodness every day. If you find a new designer you like, please say hi from FashCon to them – don’t be a grumpypants.
The new designers have now been added to the new FashCon HUD – if you have it already all you have to do is load it up, and it’ll give you an update. If you don’t have the new HUD, I’m getting ecstatic responses – click any inworld FashCon kiosk (they look like phoneboxes or posters with my fat ugly noob face on from December 2006) or pop over to the FashCon Cafe at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Le%20Zoo/90/22/22 and grab one free from the boxes on the floor. It’s a fantastic way to find new designers – and if you click the “Auto Tour” button you get on the FashCon Tourbus! The HUD will automatically send you to a new designer’s shop every 5 minutes, synchronised with every other HUD user who’s clicked it. If people arrive at the same time as you they’re probably on the tourbus too! Do say hi and share a sandwich, or pass on a copy of the HUD if they’re not. It’s such great fun, and I’m getting reports from designers that it’s causing drunk-on-clothes shopping frenzy, which isn’t bad for anyone (except accountants). If existing designers would like to be added to the HUD to take advantage of this, and have SLurl, website, SLX/Onrez links on the website please see the FashCon Apply page – once you apply I’ll add you to all the following weekend. Moving over to the new system will really help lower my admin, as I may not be able to keep the old manual system going forever. Help my hands!
Lastly another thank you to everyone who participated in FashCon FreeDay on its rezday on the 30th this week. Wow! I think 130ish designers joined in, and at a rough estimate we filled 100 sims in one day. It’s not funny and it’s not clever! But thank you all for participating in what was possibly SL’s single largest project of benign sim griefing – or “sim performance testing” as a friend put it. LL should pay you all! Free Day was a crazy 2am idea of mine the night before and I’m amazed and thrilled how many of you joined in and what an event it became. Maybe we’ll have more! Maybe Honey will think it through a little better…
I did receive one complaint about FreeDay while it was going on from a disgruntled group member who would rather swap no freebies for fewer notices,
so I was prepared for FashCon membership to dip a little. I am therefore reeling from the fact that 800 NEW people joined FashCon on day one, and now we’re up a total of 1300 new members. I’m pretty sure we made SL history by a group increasing in size so much in one day. Hm? Yay! So hello to everyone new and welcome! I realise some of you may have joined for the freebies and choose not to stay – and that’s ok, because the designers offered them partly to celebrate, and partly to spread word about their designs – please revisit creators of your favourite freebies, tell them you love them and look at the rest of their range of creations! If you decide to stay in the group, you’ll see a host of new wonderful designers every week, and primmysculptie prettiness from designers every day to steal your Lindens. All I ask is that you all read the FashCon FAQ – it has some important guidelines on how to use FashCon, rules about group IMs, other places you can get help and chat, meet frighteningly fashionable people, etc. Please stay and enjoy the group!
